Kaymer, Scott, Mahan in SHO

A trio of professional golf’s 20-something stars will tee it up at the Shell Houston Open.

 

Martin Kaymer (No. 8 in the World Golf Rankings) of Germany, 2007 Shell Houston Open champion Adam Scott (No. 44) and Western Waste Phoenix Open winner Hunter Mahan (No. 22) will join the world class field the week of March 29-April 4 at Redstone Golf Club – Tournament Course.

 

Lee Westwood (No. 4) of England, defending champion Paul Casey (No. 6) and 20-year-old Irish sensation Rory McIlroy (No. 9)  are the other Top 10 player in the field.  Masters champion Angel Cabrera of Argentina (No. 30) and U.S. Open winner Lucas Glover (No. 25) are also among the early commitments for the lead-in tournament for The Masters.

 

In January Kaymer won the European Tour’s highly regarded Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, beating Ian Poulter down the stretch. It was the 26-year-old Kaymer’s 13 th worldwide professional victory.

 

Scott, 29, co-holder of the course record at Redstone Golf Club – Tournament Course with 2008 SHO winner Johnson Wagner, has six PGA TOUR victories and nine more international titles to his credit.

 

Mahan, 27, a captain’s choice for the victorious U.S. Presidents Cup Team last year, had six Top 10 finishes in 2009. The victory in Phoenix was his second PGA TOUR triumph.

 

Cabrera is a two-time major championship winner, having also claimed the 2007 U.S. Open Championship at Oakmont. Glover earned his first major at the 2009 U.S. Open, played at Bethpage Black.

 

Competitors have until March 26 to commit or withdraw from the Shell Houston Open.
